Which Kind Of Tires Should I Use?

What Kind of Off Road Tires?

A Jeep Wrangler TJ will take you to work everyday, and will also do a good amount of off-roading at the weekend. Initially the Jeep was introduced as standard issue with Goodyear Wrangler GS-A’s. Some of us have tested it and found it to be just sufficient for jeep wrangler off-roading. Once you read about the tires you’ll know more about tread designs. The basic tread patterns are of five different types and a few good sub-types. They’re usually quite focused at one specific area that offers excellent performance, but you should always remember that if you choose your tire carefully it won’t be too bad even in adverse  environmental conditions.

Highway Terrain

This car tyre is for ordinary passengers and runs good on tar. This tyre really works well in certain classes of rocks and sand. Due to the non-aggressive tread they bear they’re usually found in Honda CR-V’s, RAVs, Freelanders etc. Apart from this, they aren’t quite useful on the trail. There’s no point in having them till you avoid off-roading.

All Terrain

AT’s have been designed to work well in various off-road conditions. The trail or highway gap has been closed by a new innovation. A closed tread design remains quiet on a highway, and works well on sand and rock. They are quite useful in ice, snow and rain. As we all know, they get loaded in mud, but there are a few good AT designs that remain proficient even in the muddiest of the mud.

Muddy Terrain

Mud tires are of numerous styles, from the age-old bias-ply mudders that add to road noise, to all radials with modern designs that remain docile and quiet on the tar. In addition to their great performance in mud, they also work well in rocks and deep snow. The radial MT’s are flexible, and though they aren’t so good on ice and rain, they’re excellent in sand. My opinion is the 2007 Jeep Wrangler looks best in tires similar to the left picture.

Snowy Terrain

A good snow tire doesn’t resemble a mud tyre’s open-lugged design. It encourages self-cleaning, but can also compress the snow within the tread and utilize the cohesion for traction. Kerfs and sipes are also used by the snow tires. M&S rated tyres are referred to as ‘sub-class’ tyres, which are known as a pseudo AT, while the dedicated ST’s erode faster on dry roads.

Sandy Terrain

Sand tires aren’t designed to cut through sand; they’re good at compressing it. Quite often you need to reduce pressure while sand driving in order to enhance flotation. This also holds good as sand driving gets mingled with rocky terrain drives. That’s why sand tires have robust and flexible side walls. Although these tires wear quickly on tar, and create more noise with their HT counterparts, they’re quite better than the AT’s and MT’s in certain respects. There you have it folks, a quick rundown on the different kinds of tires the 2007 Jeep wrangler and even any year Jeep Wrangler can fit and use effectively.
